The Diamond City Partnership is a
public-private downtown management organization, serving as the custodian of our communitys vision for
Downtown Wilkes-Barre.
Governed by a 35-member BOARD OF DIRECTORS, Diamond City Partnership (DCP) consists of representatives from downtown businesses, property owners, residents, educational and religious institutions, and the local government. Its organization and activities follow Pennsylvania’s Main Street Program model.
The Board’s Executive Committee is composed of the officers and the chairs of each of the five standing committees, Organization, Design, Economic Restructuring, Promotion and Downtown Residents.
Created in 2001 the DCP has achieved many accomplishments and goals. Today, DCP’s workplan is implemented through five standing mission driven committees, drawn both from the Board of Directors and from the community at large:
- ECONOMIC RESTRUCTURING COMMITTEE: To grow the Downtown economy through programs designed to achieve growth in the areas of office, commercial, retail and housing opportunities following the recommendations of the Downtown Strategic Market Development Plan.
- PROMOTION COMMITTEE: To work with the City and private and non-profit partners to improve the image and viability of Downtown Wilkes-Barre.
- DESIGN COMMITTEE: To encourage and oversee the creation of a beautiful, historic mixed-use downtown as guided by our Historic Preservation Working Group and the Downtown Design Workshops.
- ORGANIZATION COMMITTEE: To develop and cultivate partnerships among government, organizations, educational institutions, businesses, and residents in order to sustain the financial stability of the revitalization and perpetuation of a vibrant Downtown Wilkes-Barre.
- DOWNTOWN RESIDENTS ASSOCIATION: Is an advocate for the collective interest of those calling Downtown Wilkes-Barre home. DRA meets monthly at the Wilkes University Henry Student Center on the 2nd Tuesday of each month. Visit the Wilkes-Barre Events Calendar for specific agenda items and guest speakers.
